The man arrested on December 2 of last year and believed to be responsible for the evacuation of the Toombs County Courthouse on November 15 entered a guilty plea Monday afternoon in the same courthouse in which a call he placed wreaked terror.
Rodney Steven Weeks has been in the Toombs County Detention Center without bond since arrested. Monday afternoon he was sentenced by Middle Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Bobby Reeves to serve another 90-120 days in a probation detention center without any credit for time served in the county jail, pay $1,000 in fines along with other stipulations. He was also placed on 5 years of probation after his incarceration.
On November 15, 2021, Weeks called the Toombs County Magistrates Office and said there was a bomb in the courthouse. Then-Chief Magistrate Rizza O’Connor took the threat seriously and cautiously notified law enforcement. The entire courthouse was evacuated and the surrounding area barricaded while the building and grounds were swept for explosives, but none were found and the business at the courthouse resumed later that day.
At the time of Weeks’ arrest, it was reported that he called the threat into the Magistrates Office so that his girlfriend, 26-year-old Charity Ann Miles wouldn’t have to appear in court that day. Both were charged with terroristic threats and acts.
