For the second straight year, the Vidalia Wrestling Team will make a trip to the GHSA State Wrestling Duals. The Indians swept Callaway and Banks County on Friday in Vidalia to advance to the State Championships, which will be held Saturday in Bremen.
The Indians opened the State Prelims with a decisive win over Callaway taking 11 matches in a 62-18 win. “We worked hard all week to get ready and thought we had things set up the way we wanted them, and the kids executed, and we couldn’t be happier,” said Vidalia Head Coach Bobby Blount.
In the match against Banks County, the Indians jumped out to a 24-0 lead and then hung on for the 45-35 win. “We got exactly what we wanted in the Banks Match,” said Blount. “We started out at 126, and that’s where we are strong. We got the big lead, and the kids just kept the momentum going. I am so proud of the effort and the way they handled themselves,” Blount added.
The Indians, who head to the State Duals in back-to-back years for the first time, will face Lamar County to begin their quest for a State Championship. “This is about the kids; they have come to work every day and stayed focused. We have a good group of seniors, seven seniors who are great leaders and set the tone. I told them at the first of the year, that we would be as good as they were and I am so proud of them.”
The AA State Championship will get underway at 10:00 AM at Bremen High School, with the Finals set for 3:00 PM. If you can’t make the trip, the event will be streamed live on the NFHS Network. CLICK HERE
