1 18 22 Lady Crusaders BB

(Junior Mary-Claire Wolfe looks for sophomore Bree Wimberly to set up a play).

Robert Toombs Christian Academy's Lady Crusaders picked up two wins against big rivalries, with one of them being a big Region win! On Tuesday, January 11th, the Lady Crusaders played Twiggs Academy and won 54-18. Top scorers were sophomore Bree Wimberly with 26 points, freshman Meredith Durden with nine points, and sophomore Ansley Akins with seven points.

Here's what the Lady Crusaders Head Coach, Jacob Wilkinson,  had to say about the game, "We had a few players out with Covid which can always affect the team dynamic. We came out slow and to begin with until a few players stepped up to help lead the team. Our defense quickly got into rhythm and we were able to push the ball from our press to get a few easy layups. Junior Mary-Claire Wolfe came off the bench and made some big steals and layups to get the ball rolling. We had great shooting from sophomores Bree Wimberly and Ansley Akins. Freshman Meredith Durden and sophomore Emmie Davis did a good job controlling the boards while seniors Ellie Graham and Morgan Newsome leadership kept the team focused on our goal, which is to stay at the top of our Region."

The Lady Crusaders also defeated the Pinewood Patriots on Thursday, January 13th. The final score was 42-34 and the top scorers were sophomores Bree Wimberly with 27 points, Ansley Akins with six points, and Emmie Davis with three points.

"This was a game the girls were excited to play again. After the loss earlier in the year where the girls felt they should have won, they were ready to come out and play this game. We came out slow and were down 10 points at the end of the first quarter. Sophomores Bree Wimberly, Emmie Davis, and junior Mary-Claire Wolfe hit several big shots which allowed the girls to go on a 15-0 run, making the score 19-14 at the end of the half. We started the third quarter right out of the gates in our press and never looked back. We raised the lead to 17 points but PCA fought back bringing the final score to an eight point difference. I am very proud of our efforts. We keep getting better every day and the girl's tough schedule is starting to pay off. Winning games and moving up the rankings shows that they have a goal and continue to work towards it every week," says the Lady Crusaders Head Coach, Jacob Wilkinson. (Courtesy of RTCA)
