Stephen Lee Hammond

Our beloved father, Stephen Lee Hammond, age 63, went home to be with our Lord on January 15, 2022 at Community Hospice of Vidalia, Georgia after an extended illness.

Affectionately known as “Steve” and “Pop”, he was born on February 15, 1958, in Greenville, South Carolina to Robert and Barbara Hammond.  He was a graduate of Riverside High School (’76) and attended the University of South Carolina.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia, Georgia and a small business owner in the community with The Frame Gallery.  He was a wood craftsman who was known for his skill and creativity.  Steve often spent time with his friends as an avid golfer, grill master, and life of the party. He loved his family and friends tremendously and will be remembered by them as a fun-loving and playful person.

Steve is survived by his parents, Robert and Barbara Hammond; his children, Brooks Hammond (Ashleigh), and SaraBeth Hammond (Dustin Newman); grandchildren, Lennon Hammond, Beckett Hammond, and Scout Newman; his brother, Gordon Hammond (Carolyn); nephews, Brad Hammond, Ben Hammond (Laura), Andrew Hammond (Jenny); and their families.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Vidalia First United Methodist Church. Prior to the service, the family will have visitation starting at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Ministries or Community Hospice of Vidalia.
