This is mid-week of the initial week of the 2022 Georgia General Assembly, but before this session even began, there was work to do and for State Representative Leesa Hagan, that meant already delving into the workings of an elected state official.
In November Hagan was involved in the redistricting of the State’s House Districts.
“Every 10 years, lines have to be redrawn based on the Census and the reported population,” Rep. Hagan said. “This time, as the House of Representatives did in 2011, we drew a map that puts each District within 1.5 percent of each other. That way, each District is represented equally, and no District has an advantage over another.”
Rep Hagan said she is pleased with the new maps and believe to be fair and ones that would stand up in court if challenged.
The redistricting means the 156th District of the House of Representatives that Hagan represents now will change next year.
“I’m sad to be losing parts of Appling and Jeff Davis counties that I represent now,” she said, “but I’m excited to be able to campaign and serve the new District that will include all of Toombs, Montgomery and Wheeler counties, as well as portions of Tattnall, Telfair and Ben Hill counties.”
