WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Brewton-Parker women’s wrestling program began competition on Friday at the Patriot Duals in Williamsburg, Ky. The Lady Barons opened the tournament with a strong showing on day one, gathering a 4-1 record in a field loaded with talented wrestlers.

BPC posted wins over Limestone (S.C.), Campbellsville Maroon (Ky.), Cumberlands Red (Ky.), and Emmanuel (Ga.) 22-20. The only loss of the day came to Tiffin Gold (Ohio) 44-5. Two of the four wins were over NCAA DII opponents with the other two being fellow NAIA competitors.

Individual Results | Day One

101 | At the 101-lb class, Brewton-Parker decided to not wrestle anyone with four of the five duals choosing to double-forfeit the opening bout, but Tiffin chose to earn the points over BPC.

109 | Alyssa Valdivia recorded a 4-1 record on the day. She opened with a 10-0 tech fall over Onnalaya Aguilera (Limestone). Her lone loss of the day came against Olivia Shore (Tiffin) recorded a fall (0:35) to win.

Valdivia followed up with a win via forfeit against Campbellsville and a pin (2:26) over Jaine Stephens (Cumberlands) in the fourth round. She closed out the day with a 10-0 tech fall against Alejandra Perez (Emmanuel).

116 | At 116, Hayden Varner went 1-4 on day one. She fell 11-0 against Gabriela Ramos Diaz (Limestone) and 10-0 by Grace Jones (Tiffin) before defeating Kaitlin Barnett (Campbellsville) via fall (1:26). Varner closed out the day a 10-0 loss to Alexis Medina (Cumberlands) and an 11-0 loss to Kasey Baynon (Emmanuel).

123 | Two BPC grapplers competed in the 123-lb class. Geneva Winston opened with a 17-6 tech fall loss to Caroline Schmitt (Limestone) she then competed in match three, falling via pin (2:08) to Elena Hughes (Campbellsville).

Alesandra Burgos went 3-0 on the day battling in matches two, four, and five. She defeated Stephanie Mondragon (Tiffin) via pin (0:17) and followed with another pin (1:02) against Hailey Foster (Cumberlands). Burgos finished with a 10-0 tech fall over Destiny Whitehead (Emmanuel) in match five.

130 | Leidaly Rivera competed in two divisions for the day but battled mostly in the 130-lb class. She gathered a 3-0 record at 130 after picking up wins in matches one, three, and four. She opened with a 12-0 win over Hannah Mains (Limestone) and followed with a pin (2:44) over Taylor Howell (Campbellsville) before closing out 130 with a 10-0 win over Zoey Smith (Cumberlands).

Katelynn Neal also competed for Brewton-Parker at 130. Neal lost via fall (0:27) against Solana Mottola (Tiffin) in match two and then closed the day with a loss via fall (1:10) against Evelyne Vazquez (Emmanuel).

136 | Jorie Richardson competed at 136 for BPC and recorded a 1-2 record on the day. She opened with a pin (0:31) over Kathe Wilken-Yoder (Limestone) followed by a 10-0 loss to Kaden Campbell (Campbellsville) and a loss via fall (1:24) against Courtney Pittman (Cumberlands).

Sydney Allman competed in match two at 136. She was pinned (0:47) by Michal Buska (Tiffin) in her lone bout of the day. Closing out the 136 class for BPC, Rivera picked up a win wrestling up in the 136 class by defeating Samantha Larios (Emmanuel) with a 16-4 tech fall.

143 | For 143, Kamryn Ellis recorded an 0-2 record with an 11-2 decision versus Mika Walters (Limestone) and a loss via fall (4:12) against Hannah McDonald (Campbellsville). Mel Mercado also competed at 143 for BPC as she picked up a 14-3 tech fall over Taylor Whitehurst (Cumberlands).

In matches two and four, BPC decided to not wrestle at 143 and gave up two forfeit wins to Tiffin and Emmanuel.

155 | Mercado also competed in 155, recording a 1-1 record in the division. She opened match one with a loss via 18-15 decision to Clara Padua-Cruz (Limestone). She bounced back in match three with a 12-2 tech fall victory against Lizbeth Bandaras-Rodriguez (Campbellsville).

Sierra Hartfelder lost via fall (0:40) against Taylor Hites (Tiffin) before also competing at 170 for the Lady Barons. India Page also battled in a match at 155 with a pin (0:14) over Kailee Godinez. (Cumberlands). Lastly, Ellis closed out the division with a fall (3:22) over Skyla Armstrong (Emmanuel).

170 | To continue the theme of versatility, a few BPC grapplers also competed in the 170 spot. Page opened with a pin (2:58) over Caitlyn Gilmore (Limestone). She also picked up another pin (0:57) in match three against Faalia Martinez (Campbellsville).

Alivia Myers fell via pin (1:27) to Taryn Martin (Tiffin) with Hartfelder closing out 170 with a 1-1 record. She first was dropped 10-0 to Chamira Cooper (Cumberlands) before earning a win by forfeit against Emmanuel.

191 | Brewton-Parker did not wrestle at 191, giving up points in four of the five matches.

The Barons return to action on Saturday in the Championship Bracket (Red Pool). They are set to take on Campbellsville Black. The winner will face either Eastern Oregon or Tiffin Gold in the first-place match while the loser of the two matches face off in the third-place dual.

Action in Williamsburg begins at 10 a.m. ET.
