DeSilva Poll RV Wrestle copy

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker men’s wrestling program appeared in the receiving votes section in the latest NAIA Men’s Wrestling Coaches’ Poll, the national office announced on Friday.

The Barons were mentioned in the receiving votes section with 15 votes in the poll, adding a few votes from the preseason poll earlier in October.

Brewton-Parker continued with a lone grappler listed in the individual rankings. In this poll, Lucas DeSilva earned a top-10 ranking. DeSilva gathered 95 points for sixth place in the 184-lb weight class. DeSilva breaks into the top-20 for the first time this season with Joel Faglier unfortunately dropping outside of the top-20 of the 285-lb class, Faglier opened the season ranked ninth in his division.

The Barons have competed at two events so far this season and were set to compete on Friday night at Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). Unfortunately, Lindsey Wilson was forced to postpone the dual due to COVID protocols within the wrestling program.

Grand View (Iowa) continues to hold the top spot in the poll with 209 voting points.

The national poll is voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the eight conferences. Prior to the poll, each qualifying group rater submits the top six individuals from each weight class in the conference. Only wrestlers listed on a conference ballot are considered for the national ballot.

The top 20 individuals in each weight class are based on how each voter ranks the best individuals. An individual receives 20 points for each first-place vote, 19 for second place and so on through the list. This same point system is used to determine the team ranking.

The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team's ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot.

The Barons return to action as they take on Life (Ga.) on Dec. 8 to open Mid-South Conference competition on the road in Marietta.
