Mrs. Lois Jean McLain Phillips, age 81, beloved wife of Shannon Moore Phillips passed away on Monday morning, October 25, 2021 at the Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Soperton.

Born in Toombs County, she was the youngest and last living of three children born to the late Cannie and Florene Kitchens McLain.  She and her siblings grew up on a farm in the Blue Ridge Community of Toombs County.  After graduating from Lyons High School in 1956 she attended Secretarial / Business School in Atlanta.  Upon completion, she returned home and worked in Swainsboro for Warnock and Calhoun Wholesale Grocers.  In 1961, she married Treutlen County native, Shannon Moore Phillips. She later joined Handi House in Swainsboro where she remained for over 30 years retiring in 2007.

Mrs. Phillips had been a longtime member of Morningside Baptist Church where she played the piano for a short time.

As a child she enjoyed working with family gathering tobacco and cotton and fishing in the Ohoopee.    In later years she enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.  She was a self taught and accomplished seamstress that enjoyed sewing her own clothing; from picking out the pattern, choosing the fabric and meticulously creating her finished product of which she would be very proud.  As one of her favorite singers Merle Haggard would sing, “I Take A Lot Of Pride In Who I Am”.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Everette McLain, Dorothy Cobb and an infant son, Kerry Phillips.

Mrs. Phillips leaves behind, her husband of sixty years, Shannon Phillips, their two sons, Terry Phiillips, (Laura), and Ronnie Phillips, all of Soperton, three granddaughters, Brandi Dykes (Justin), Brenna Phillips, Chloe Phillips, a grandson, Jacob Phillips, three great grandchildren, Mason, Madilyn and Abigail, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Eunice Gillis of Dublin, Georgia.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from the graveside in   Boiling Springs Cemetery with Reverend Louis Pierce and Reverend Vic Fordham officiating.

Her family will receive friends on Wednesday at the graveside from 10:00 am until the time of service, or friends and family may call at the home of her son, Terry (912-245-1740).

Her family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center for the love and care that was extended to Mrs. Phillips during her time with them.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made, in her memory, to the charity of one’s choice.
