Nathan

A Toombs County deputy has been hospitalized after he was in an accident himself Saturday night while enroute to another accident.

Senior Deputy Nathan Coursey was responding to a single car accident at the intersection of Buck Road and Old Normantown Road between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. when his patrol vehicle left the roadway inducing his car into a roll. He was seriously injured and flown by Air Evac to Memorial Hospital in Savannah, where he remains in stable condition and has undergone surgery with operations to come. However, it is expected that his recovery will take an extensive period.

Coursey has been with the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office for 7 years, and Captain Jordan Kight said “Nathan is a huge asset to our department. His absence is being noticed.”

The deputy’s accident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help with medical bills and other expenses.

Regarding the accident in which he was responding, it appears that Mark Shane Adams of Uvalda ran the stop sign at the intersection and impacted with a tree. First Responders with the Toombs County Fire Department had to extricate Adams from the wreckage, and EMS pronounced him deceased at the scene from injuries he sustained in the accident.
