In a hard-fought game in wet field conditions and two weather delays the RTCA Crusaders won their first game of the season at home Friday night 21-19 over the Fullington Academy Trojans.
The Crusaders received the opening kickoff and drove the ball down the field but were unable to score. Fullington Academy took advantage on a Crusader fumble and jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.
RTCA tied the game with 9:47 in the second quarter on Quarterback TJ Stanley 8-yard run. In the second quarter the game was delayed by lightning and then on the first play after the delay the Trojans scored on a 5-yard run. The PAT was no good for a 13-7 Trojan lead.
RTCA took the lead 14-13 with 1:35 remaining in the first half on a Jashaun Powell 5-yard run and a Justin Bowers successful PAT. There was another weather delay right before halftime and the teams went into the break early with the Crusaders leading 14-13.
The Crusaders scored again with 3:59 in the third quarter when Powell ran the ball into the endzone around the left end 65-yards. The PAT by Bowers was good for a 21-13 RTCA lead.
The Trojans made the game close when they scored with 6:41 left in the game on run from 7-yards out. The 2-point try was no good.
