The Wheeler County Bulldogs defeated the Treutlen Vikings 20 – 9 in a defensive struggle on Saturday in Alamo.  The game was moved to Saturday after heavy rains made the field at Wheeler County High School unplayable on Friday night.

Treutlen scored first midway through the first quarter when a bad snap on a  Wheeler County fumble resulted in a safety giving the Vikings a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with 6:52 remaining in the second quarter when QB Jacquez Kincy hit Jay Faison on a seam route for a 29 yard touchdown pass.  The 2 point conversion pass was dropped in the end zone and Wheeler County led 6-2 going into halftime.

The low scoring game stayed that way through the third quarter with both offenses struggling to move the ball on the wet field.  Then with 3:06 left in the game, RB Jay Faison ran it in from 7 yards out to extend the Bulldog lead.  The 2 point conversion pass from Kincey to Ian Scott was successful and Wheeler County led 14-2.

The Viking offense went to the air but the Bulldogs Claude Pound intercepted a Viking pass and returned it 30 yards for another Bulldog touchdown.  The PAT attempt was no good and Wheeler had a 20-2 lead.  Treutlen scored the final score of the day on a 15 yard run by QB Quen Jordan with just 2 seconds remaining.  The PAT by Kicker Harrison Rutherford was good giving the Bulldogs a 20 – 9 victory.

The Vikings are now 2-4 on the season and return home to Bobby Driggers Stadium Friday night to face the Dublin Fighting Irish.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 and can be heard on Sweet Onion Country 101.7 FM and online at www.southeastgeorgiatoday.com with Jeff Raiford and Nathan Lamb.
