Mr. Harvey Lamar Brooks, age 72 of Soperton passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia.
Born in Bostwick, GA, he was the eldest of two sons born to the late Frank Lamar and Wreather Nell Nelms Brooks. He grew up and attended school in Pike County, Georgia. At the age of eighteen, he moved to South Florida and worked in the Citrus Industry. After relocating to the Sanford, FL area, he realized that he could do the same job while working for himself. In the mid to late 1970s Mr. Brooks founded Brooks Construction “B.Con.” which specialized in commercial site design and preparation. Over the next 35 years he became a sought after contractor and consultant as well as a mentor to many other contractors and architects during the South / Central Florida population explosion. He retired in 2012.
Mr. Brooks has lived in the Lothair Community of Soperton since retiring and enjoyed raising his long horn cows, riding his Can Am motorcycle and, being a heavy equipment operator, developing and building his homestead. He was a benevolent man that could be found lending a hand to a neighbor needing help with a project, contributing to someone in need or participating in a fund raising motorcycle ride.
Mr. Brooks leaves behind his Children: Jerry Lamar “J.R.” Brooks, Dade City, FL, Jenny Lynn Smith, Bonifay, FL, Joey Lamar Brooks (Danielle), Auburndale, FL, Tonya McDonald (Bobby), Lincoln, AL, Richard Lowell “Lowell” Pettis (Tammie), Osteen, FL, Joe W. Brooks (Jackie), Sanford, FL, Grandchildren: Shauna Brooks, Shawn Lamar Brooks Jr., Brandi Smith (Brandon), Courtney Brooks, Keri Brooks, Seth McDonald (Tonya), Tyler McDonald, William Connor, twins: Jeffery and Jesse Connor, Colton Brooks, Caiden Brooks, Carlie Brooks, five great grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews and many dear lifelong friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 7, 2021 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home.
Mr. Brooks will be laid to rest in Brooks Farm Cemetery, in the Lothair Community.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Mike Clowney, Roger Johnson, Shawn Lamar Brooks, Jr., Wyatt Pettis, Colton Brooks and Brandon Smith.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 am until the hour of service.
