Eight area individuals have been charged in a Laurens County methamphetamine-trafficking indictment that was unsealed last week by the United States Department of Justice, Southern District of Georgia. The eight were among a total of 30 defendants charged, in a 56-count indictment.

Those charged locally were Robin Eberling, 34 of Soperton, David Kates, 45, currently incarcerated at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville, Wanda Phillips, 40, of Adrian, Brooke Skipper, 48 of Alamo, Chris Horne, 31, of Vidalia; Cody Argo, 33, of Glenwood, Frederick Perry, Jr., 34, of Vidalia, and Steven Larsen, 55, of Glenwood.

Each was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and various other charges including use of communication facility.

The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces investigation, dubbed Operation Monroe Doctrine, identified a meth trafficking conspiracy operating throughout Laurens and Telfair counties and beyond. The drug trafficking ring operated from at least January 2020 through January 2021.

The indictment is a result of an investigation by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm and Explosives.

All of those indicted remain in custody pending court proceedings. If found guilty of the charges, each faces a statutory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison up to a life sentence, and there is no parole in the federal penal system.
