Mr. Edison Thigpen, age 87, of the Orianna Community of Soperton passed away on Sunday morning, July 4, 2021 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.

Born in Treutlen County, he was one of six children born to the late Bernie R. and Vera McLendon Thigpen.  Mr. Thigpen grew up in Orianna and in 1952 married Wheeler County native, Carolyn Elizabeth Williams.  In the mid 1950s they moved to Florida to be near his wife’s family.  While in Florida they lived in Winter Haven and Bradenton while Mr. Thigpen worked in the Citrus Processing Industry.  They returned to Treutlen County in 1960 and Mr. Thigpen worked for a short time at the Firestone Store in Soperton.   In the early 1960s he started a 40 year career with Built Well Homes; which would become Adrian Homes, from where he retired, as a Supervisor, in 2005.

Mr. Thigpen enjoyed fishing; and would on occasion carry his fishing pole with him to work and stop either going to or coming from and try his luck.

He was a longtime member of Orianna Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Frances Thigpen, Hazel Sweat, Bernie “Junior” Thigpen Jr. and a son in law, Rufus Mixon, who passed away in 2019.

Mr. Thigpen leaves behind, his wife of sixty-nine years, Carolyn E. Thigpen, Soperton, Georgia, their son, Billy Thigpen (Sarah), Luling, LA, their daughter, Deborah Mixon, Cochran, GA, two sisters, Joyce Hayes and Louise Logan, both of Soperton, GA, three grandchildren, Blaine Thigpen (Kristyn), Wesley Thigpen (Holly), Dawn Phillips (Mike), three great grandchildren, Madilyn, Maddox and Emrie as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at the Orianna Baptist Church with Reverend Arthur Conley officiating.

Mr. Thigpen will be laid to rest in Orianna Cemetery.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, at the church, from 10:00 am until the hour of service.
