Library

Construction continues in Lyons on the new Toombs County Courthouse, but that’s not the only building that should interest the residents of the county.

At two meetings this week including the Vidalia City Council meeting on Monday night and the Toombs County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday night, members of the Toombs County Library Board appeared to discuss a brand new, unified library that will be completed around the same time the Courthouse is scheduled to be completed.

The new library will be called the Dr. Mark and Tonya Tonya Spivey Public Library because of the couple’s sizeable donation. Cameron Asbell, Director of the Library, said $700,000 has been raised locally for the library with the State of Georgia contributing another $3 million.

The new library will enable the Ladson Genealogy Library and the Vidalia-Toom Library to consolidate in one building.

Renovations on the current building on Jackson Street is expected to being in October or November with the ribbon cutting on the new library aimed at December 2022.
