VPD Drugs

Three area law enforcement agencies working together made a significant impact on getting illegal drugs off the streets of Vidalia last week.

Vidalia Police Commissioner Brian Scott filed a press release stating that last Friday, April 30, the Vidalia Police Department and deputies from the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office as well as K-9 deputies from the Treutlen County Sheriff’s Office targeted high crime areas in Vidalia, and seized a large quantity of drugs, a firearm, and cash.

Commissioner Scott reported a seizure of 77.6 grams of methamphetamine, 22 grams of crack cocaine, 29.9 grams of powder cocaine, 20.1 grams of ecstasy, 43 grams of marijuana and various prescription pills. The drugs had a combined street value of nearly $11,000.

In addition, one firearm and over $1,000 in cash was seized, and five people were arrested and charged with the illegal activity. The names of those arrested were not released.

Commissioner Scott said after the operation and subsequent arrests, “Officers with the Vidalia Police Department have been and will continue to work alongside partner agencies to combat the illegal drug trade in the greater Vidalia area.” He goes on to extend his appreciation to Toombs County Sheriff Alvie Kight and Treutlen County Sheriff Tommy Corbin for their assistance.

The Vidalia Police Department will continue to take a proactive approach in suppressing drug activity in the city, and plans are in place to conduct additional targets according to Commissioner Scott.
