April 30--The Vidalia Indians took two games from the Washington County Golden Hawks on Thursday night at Greg James Field. They won game one in 6 innings by a score of 10-0 behind a 5 hit, 8 strikeout performance by Landry Mead. The second game was won 16-10 with Bryson Whited picking up the win in relief.
In Game One each team went 1-2-3 in the first inning. The Indians scored two runs in the bottom of the second on an error by the right fielder and some good base running by Jordan Walden. In the third inning the Indians picked up two more runs as Hughes Graham drove in one run with a single and Walden drew a bases loaded walk. The Indians got 5 more runs in the 4th inning as Banks, Mead and Walden singled, Graham walked along with doubles from Whited and Dalley making the score 9-0. In the bottom of the 6th inning after one out Graham and Moncus singled, Blount walked and Walden singled driving in the 10th run for a run rule win.
The offense was led by Graham’s 3 hits, 4 runs and 1 RBI; Walden 2 hits, 1 run and 3 RBI’s; Banks 2 hits and 1 run.
In Game Two the Indians jumped out to a 9-0 lead after 4 ½ innings and it looked like another easy win. However, in the bottom of the fourth the Golden Hawks used 3 hits, 2 walks and one error to plate 4 runs making the score 9-4. The Indians picked up one more run in the top of the 5th inning on a triple by Kaleb Bennett and a single by Landry Mead. After holding the Golden Hawks scoreless in the bottom half the Indians looked to again be in control going into the 6th inning but couldn’t score. In the bottom half the Golden Hawks picked up 3 hits and a walk along with 3 errors to score 6 runs tying the score at 10-10 going into the 7th inning. Bennett led off with his 4th hit of the game and was sacrificed to second by Banks. Mead followed with a double driving in Bennett. Whited followed with a ground ball that got Mead thrown out at third. With Whited on first and two outs Dalley was hit by a pitch, Graham followed with a double picking up his 4th and 5th RBI’s of the game, Moncus was then hit by a pitch and Corbett walked. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Walden got a single to drive in both runners. This made the score 16-10 Vidalia going into the bottom of the seventh. Whited got the final three outs to pick up the win.
On offense the Indians pounded out 16 hits with each starter getting at least one hit each. Kaleb Bennett led the way with 4 hits and 4 runs, Hughes Graham had 2 hits including a homerun, 2 runs and 5 RBI’s; Landry Mead 2 hits, 2 runs and 3 RBI’s. Walker Moncus and Jordan Walden also had 2 hits each.
