4 15 21 Spivey

April 15-- The Vidalia Indians beat Jeff Davis in Game 2 of their Region Series by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday night. Caden Spivey went six strong innings scattering 6 hits, walking 3 and striking out 5 while giving up only 1 run for his 5th win of the season. Bryce Morley came on to start the 7th inning and was himself relieved by Bryson Whited who picked up the save. The Indians season record goes to 20-4 and to 11-0 in region play.

The Indians offense came back strong after a slow night in Tuesday’s game picking up 11 hits but a couple of unusual double plays kept them from exploding for a big inning thus keeping the game close. The leading hitters for Vidalia were Bryson Whited with 4 hits (2 doubles), Landry Mead with 3 hits (3 doubles) and Walker Moncus with 2 hits.

The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning as Mead led off with a double and was immediately singled home by Whited.  After two outs and a runner on first Moncus singled on a hit and run putting runners on the corners.  Jordan Walden drew a walk followed by a walk to Michael Blount forcing in a second run. However, a strike out with the bases loaded ended the inning with Vidalia in front 2-0. Jeff Davis got a run back in the top of the 2nd inning and Vidalia didn’t score leaving the score at 2-1 Vidalia.

Neither team could score again until the bottom of the 5th inning when Vidalia picked up three runs but the first unusual double play kept them from getting more leaving the score 5-1 Vidalia after five innings. In the 6th inning Hughes Graham led off with a single to left followed by a single by Moncus to left but the promise of another good inning was ended by the second unusual double play.

Jeff Davis was able to score two runs in the top of the 7th inning and had the tying runs on base with no outs but Whited slammed the door shut by striking out two and getting a pop up to the catcher. That gave Vidalia the 5-3 win and a 2-0 advantage in the series which is scheduled to complete Friday night in Hazlehurst at 6:00 pm.
