March 30-- In the first game of this week’s three game region series Vidalia took the win over Toombs County by an 8-1 score. Landry Mead went the distance to pick up his 7th win of the season. Mead was in control the entire game scattering 5 hits while striking out 13 batters.On the offensive side 7 of 9 Vidalia batters had hits. Ty Dalley and Hughes Graham led the way with 2 hits each while Bryson Whited and Walker Moncus had two RBI’s each.
In the first inning with two outs Dalley singled and then Graham hit a hard liner to right center which was misplayed by the center fielder for an error allowing Dalley to score and Graham to get to third. Moncus followed with a two out single up the middle to drive in Graham for a 2-0 lead going into the bottom half. Toombs County didn’t score leaving the score 2-0 after one inning. In the top of the second inning Michael Blount and Jordan Walden got back to back singles leading off the inning but after two outs the runners had not advanced. Whited then got a big two out double to score both runners making the score 4-0 going to the bottom half. Toombs County was able to push across one run making the score 4- 1 Vidalia after two innings. The Indians went on to pick up single runs in the 3rd and 6th innings making the score 6-1 Vidalia going into the 7th inning. Vidalia picked up two more insurance runs and Mead slammed the door shut on any hopes for Toombs County in the bottom half recording his 12th and 13th strike outs.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Wednesday, at Greg James Field in Vidalia at 5:45pm.The final game of the series is scheduled to be back at Toombs County on Thursday at 5:45pm.You can hear the games on Classic Hits, 98Q and at southeastgeorgiatoday.com.
