Michael McAfee Thigpen, 92 of Rockledge passed away on January 16, 2021, at
Dublin Place after a brief stay.
Mike was born in Rockledge, Georgia on February 25, 1928, to Marvin Jack Thigpen
and Neva Lillian Williford Thigpen. He was one of four children. He attended
Laurens County School located in Rockledge. He was a lifetime member of
Rockledge United Methodist Church.
Mike joined the U.S. Navy for 4 years and after completion of his recruitment, he
joined the U.S. Army for three years. Returning home he moved to Rockledge,
Florida where he owned and operated a trucking business for many years. During
the Vietnam War, he went to Viet Nam and worked as a private contractor. Upon
retirement in 1990, he returned to Rockledge, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, Neva and Marvin Thigpen he is also preceded in death by
his older brothers and sister-in-law William Jack Thigpen (Inez) and Robert Earl
Thigpen.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Alice Pope (Ben); sister-in-law Fay Woods Thigpen;
nieces Tullie Yarbrough (Charles), Bonnie Pope, Terri Walden (Larry), Bobbie Hilbun
(Sam), Robbie Hardy (Tommy), Jackie Young (Derrick); nephews, Marvin Thigpen
(Vicki), Ronald Pope (Tammy) and many nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions a graveside service will be held on January 19, 2021 at
11:00 AM at the Thigpen Family Cemetery, Rockledge, GA. Rev. Paul Thomas and
Rev. Larry Sauls will officiate service.
In lieu of flowers and food his family request donations be made to the United
Methodist Church for Children, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, GA 31204.
