WhitfieldKahtyPicCROPPEDMrs. Kathy Whitfield, age 65, of Soperton passed away on Saturday morning, October 10, 2020 at Meadows Regional Hospital in Vidalia.

Born in Opp, Alabama, she was the eldest of three daughters born to the late Elwood Marrow and Betty Jean Parker Grantham.  Her family lived in Elba, Alabama until moving to Florida in 1965.  Kathy was a graduate of Kathleen High School in Lakeland, attended Florida Metropolitan University and earned her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education. 

She worked with severely handicapped children as a Special Education Teacher in Polk County, Florida before moving to Georgia.  She continued working in Fort Valley and Tatnall County; before retiring from the Toombs County Public School System in 2015.

Kathy enjoyed fishing, working with her flowers, canning, needle crafts, quilting and collecting, preserving and repurposing family and area period heirlooms.

She was a faithful member of Boiling Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

She leaves behind her husband of fourteen years, Dean Whitfield, Soperton, GA, her daughter, Shelly “Shell” Glawson (Michael), Polk City, FL, sons, Jerry Whitfield, Naples, FL, Tommy Whitfield, Zolfo Springs, FL, her sisters, Sandra Hemness of SC, Debra Overton of NY, her grandchildren, Bailee Myers (Cody), Polk City, FL, Dakota Glawson (Aleah Guy), Polk City, FL, great grandchildren, Cason Michael, Macie Grace, another on the way, several nieces and nephews and countless special friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Conway Jones officiating.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, at the church, from 10:00 am until the hour of service or friends may call at the residence.

Kathy will be laid to rest in Boiling Springs Cemetery.
