A former Lyons police officer turned himself in to authorities Monday after being investigated for allegedly filing a false insurance claim.
Vidalia Police Department was the lead investigative agency into the allegations against former LPD officer Zachary Culberston.
Vidalia Chief of Police Rob Shore said the investigation began on August 17, 2025, when his office received a report of a stolen vehicle from Culbertson’s residence. Chief Shore said following an investigation, officers determined that the report was false. Warrants were then obtained for Culbertson for making a false report of a crime, and insurance fraud.
A reputable source tells this radio station that Culbertson resigned as a Lyons Police officer during the investigation. The source added that the former officer was arraigned and posted bail on Monday and noted that Culbertson was never booked into jail.
