Former Vidalia Chief of Police Brian Scott along with fellow plaintiff John Powell filed a civil complaint with the United State District Court for the Southern District of Georgia Brunswick Division on June 22 alleging a conspiracy by Glynn County Sheriff Neal Jump, former Glynn County District Attorney Jackie Johnson, and 11 other defendants alleging they intentionally framed the two plaintiffs and accused them of misconduct.

The 64-page lawsuit filed in federal court, references a case from 2010 that involved another officer in Glynn County. At time, John Powell was the Glynn County Chief of Police and Brain Scott was his second in command. Powell and Scott were indicted for violation of Oaths of Office, but the Georgia Supreme Court unanimously reversed those charges and they were dismissed.

Powell and Scott are seeking a jury trial in the federal ongoing case for malicious prosecution and conspiracy and praying for $20 million in compensatory and punitive damages, costs and attorney fees, and additional relief as the court deems appropriate.

Brian Scott served as the Vidalia Chief of Police from August 2019 – August 2021.  He currently serves as the Chief of Police in Soperton.
