Scan Alert

In the last couple of weeks our RadioJones stations have fielded countless robotic calls from phone numbers that immediately begin with, "Hello? Hello? This is [whomever]" and then says something about" personal Medicare flags they just happen to notice on your record."

The calls sometimes come from locally spoofed numbers including even one from RadioJones’ own phone number. The caller doesn’t even ask a  name to verify they have an individual rather than a business, but immediately goes into a script and demands that you give " a yes or no” answer, which you should never do during any unsolicited call.

As many scam reports as this radio station has done, we know the calls are not legitimate, but that was verified to us Wednesday when a listener shared an email she had received from the real Medicare who said they have been made aware of these type calls and it’s a scam to use your Medicare information to bill Medicare for services and equipment that you don’t need, have, or use.

Remember: Never give your information over the phone and hang up immediately. If you think you’ve experienced this type of fraud, report it to 1-800-Medicare or at Medicare.gov/fraud.
