Georgia’s Data Center boom has even reached Emanuel County and Swainsboro, where it came up in the public comments segment of this week’s City Council meeting.
Jessie Meadows who said she was speaking for herself and over 50 other small business owners in the city “These are business owners who have paid every required fee, obtained every required license and passed every required inspection. They do their part in the community.” They all signed a petition asking questions about this particular crypto mining business in town. Do they pay taxes, have inspections and occupational licenses, etc. No complaints about the type of business, just an open records request for transparency and equal treatment. Ms. Meadows said she understood this would take some time and was not expecting any answers that night.
This is a complicated story that we will continue to follow it.
