Teachers of the Year for the ‘25 – ‘26 school year were recognized by the Board of Education Members at their regular meeting Monday. Chelsea Johnson was the system wide top teacher and the honoree from Twin City Elementary. The Emanuel County Institute recognized Christian Novak. Karol Key was recognized from Swainsboro Primary, Lori Romley from Swainsboro Elementary, Shaakira Williams from Swainsboro Middle School, and Erica Johnson from Swainsboro High School.
Numerous students received recognition for performance at national Beta Convention, and in sports at the State Class A Division One Championships in May. In Discus the champion was Kadorian Benhamin, the golf champion was Collen Lewis. Plus the top 4 by 100 relay team, Jylerris Williams, Marco Danford, Day Dveyhon Williams, and Kavoyea Williams were also recognized.
In the consent agenda was approval for the purchase of a new 72 passenger air-conditioned gas bus, mostly with funds from the state, and a Ford Maverick XL work truck from SLOST funds. Also approved were the minutes from past meetings, including the called Board meeting August 29th where the current tax digest and five year history were approved for publication and the 6th in a row Millage roll back was approved, this time down to 11.732.
