Toombs County EMA Director Lynn Moore has notified the media stating that the Georgia Department of Transportation has NOT closed the Altamaha River Bridge near Plant Hatch and has no plans to so at this time.
Moore said DOT inspectors will monitor the situation and make that decision ONLY IF NECESSARY, but as of this time, the bridge is open and passable. DOT workers have treated the bridge and several bridges in the area for possible snow and ice accumulations in a proactive approach.
Moore sent out a notice from the National Weather Service Tuesday morning stating that the warnings an advisories have not changed since yesterday's Newsbreak. Snow is expected to begin within a few hours, and there have already been sporadic reports in some areas receiving winter precipitation in Georgia.
