5 9 24 Toombs Co Baseball

The Toombs County Bulldogs wrapped up their 2024 baseball season with a challenging playoff series against Rockmart, which concluded their campaign. Despite their efforts, the Bulldogs were unable to secure a win in the series, closing the season with a record of 21-11 overall and a 10-5 mark in region play, finishing second in the region.

In the series opener, the Bulldogs faced a tough matchup, with Brantley Upshaw taking the mound. Upshaw was able to last just over three innings, allowing six earned runs on nine hits, as Toombs County fell 9-1. Trayvone Harris and Jackson Jenkins provided a spark with hits, but the Bulldogs couldn’t rally enough offense to overcome the early deficit.

The second game saw TJ Stanley step up as the starting pitcher, enduring six innings where he allowed two earned runs on five hits while striking out six. However, the Bulldogs’ offense again found it tough to break through, managing only minimal hits in a 7-0 defeat. This game marked the end of the Bulldogs’ incredible playoff run and their season.

As Toombs County reflects on the season, they bid farewell to four impactful seniors. Trayvone Harris, Caleb McCoy, Jesus Quintero, and Brantley Upshaw have all been pivotal to the Bulldogs’ success during their tenure. Each senior made significant contributions, both on and off the field, shaping the program’s culture and setting a high standard for future players. Their leadership, skill, and dedication to the game have left a lasting mark on Toombs County Baseball, and they will undoubtedly be missed as they move on from high school sports.

While the Bulldogs’ season may have ended sooner than hoped, the team’s spirit and the legacy left by its seniors will undoubtedly carry forward into future seasons.(Courtesy of Toombs County Athletics)
