The Vidalia High School Baseball program will be under new leadership next spring when it takes the field. Citing the need to “move the baseball program in a different direction,” Vidalia Principal Bruce Mulkey announced the resignation of Vidalia Head Coach Brent Korn this afternoon.

“I have the utmost respect for Brent Korn,” said Mulkey. “His character, integrity, and the type of husband and father he is can never be questioned. We are excited that he will continue to work with Vidalia City Schools and our softball program. I want to thank Brent, his wife Janet, and their family for their commitment to the VHS baseball program over the last eight years.”

“That said, we are prepared to move forward and immediately begin the search for our next baseball coach. Our facilities, resources, community support, and returning talent, combined with our history of success, make this an incredibly attractive job.”

The following is a prepared statement from Coach Korn:

Following a discussion with the leadership at Vidalia High School, I have been asked to step down as the Head Coach of the Vidalia Baseball program. While I disagree with this decision, I respect the perspective of Principal Bruce Mulkey and Athletic Director Tommy Dalley, who believe it is time to steer the program in a new direction, one that I hope will continue to bring success to the program.”

I appreciate John Sharpe and the Vidalia Board of Education for giving me the opportunity eight years ago to be the head coach of the Vidalia Baseball program. I feel like we have continued to carry on the rich tradition of Vidalia High School Baseball. During those eight years, we achieved remarkable success, winning over 140 games, including two Region Championships and the school’s third State Title in 2022.”

“It has been a pleasure and an honor to have coached countless young men over my tenure, and hopefully, I’ve made an impact in their lives and helped them to where when baseball is over with, they will be better citizens, better employees, better husbands, better fathers, and better men.“

While my role may be changing, my commitment to the Vidalia City School System remains steadfast. I am honored to continue supporting Coach Ben Beck and the Softball program as an assistant coach, contributing to the development of our student-athletes.

To the Vidalia Indian Nation and the Vidalia Community, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support. Your enthusiasm and dedication have been instrumental in our achievements. I am confident that you will continue to rally behind the program, ensuring its bright future.“

Mulkey finished by saying, “We look forward to the challenge of finding the right person to continue to develop young men and build a culture of excellence in our baseball program.” (Courtesy of Vidalia Athletics)
