MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Softball hosted (RV) Stillman on Monday afternoon after shifting the weekend schedule around due to weather as Monday’s game was originally slated for Friday, Mar. 22.

The Lady Barons (15-9, 5-5 SSAC) returned to conference play, hosting the Tigers (23-5, 7-5 SSAC) for a doubleheader in Mount Vernon. Brewton-Parker slipped in the opening game 4-1 before following with a 6-4 victory in the second contest.

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 1, SC 4

Stillman opened with a pair of RBI singles to take a two-run lead in the top of the first inning, leaving a duo on base as well. Scoreless innings in the second and third would pass before the Tigers utilized a leadoff base hit and a two-out RBI single to move to a 3-0 advantage in the fourth inning. Brewton-Parker struggled to score in the second after Skylar Strickland and Ashley Wilson both notched base hits.

The visitors moved to a four-run edge in the fifth inning with a stolen base at home before the Lady Barons were able to bring a runner home in the bottom half of the frame. Wilson produced a leadoff single to right field and stole a bag at second before advancing to third on a groundout from Alexis Bradshaw. Wilson would then cross the dish off a sacrifice fly from Destiny Lucas, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Stillman notched a hit in both the sixth and seventh innings while Brewton-Parker was held to six quick outs to drop game one by a three-run gap.

How It Happened | G2 – BPC 6, SC 4

Brewton-Parker struck first in the second game with a one-out single from Lucas to start the offensive production. After a stolen base from Lucas, Tori Wright singled to left field to place runners on the corners. Wright followed with a stolen base before an RBI groundout from Alyssa Usrey scored Lucas for the 1-0 lead in the opening frame.

Stillman produced two singles and a double to load the bases in the second inning. The Tigers nearly leveled the game with a fielder’s choice; however, Lucas was able to throw down to Wright at home to keep Stillman from scoring.

The Lady Barons returned in the bottom half of the second inning with three hits to help push home a run for a 2-0 lead. Strickland notched a one-out single which was later followed by a two-out single from Bradshaw. Lucas brought home Strickland on a single down the left field line before Bradshaw was out at home trying to score.

The Tigers pulled within one run in the third, utilizing a single, error, fielder’s choice, and a loaded bases walk to move the score to 2-1. Brewton-Parker responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 5-1 lead.

Usrey notched a double before Taylor Elliott brought Usrey home on a single for a 3-1 lead. BPC moved to a 4-1 lead with a double from BryAnn Pound and an error to score Elliott before Chloe Strickland recorded an RBI on a groundout for the 5-1 lead.

The Lady Barons moved to a 6-1 advantage in the fourth with a two-out single and stolen base from Lucas followed by a single from Wright and a stolen base at home from Lucas. Stillman responded in the fifth with back-to-back doubles for a 6-2 ballgame before pulling closer in the seventh.

Stillman loaded the bases with a fielder’s choice, double, and a walk to threaten the Lady Barons. The Tigers reached on another fielder’s choice as Lucas threw the runner out at home before a two-RBI single cut the Tigers’ deficit down to two runs. With two runners on, O’Neal struck out the go-ahead run at home to seal the game shut, 6-4.
