The Vidalia Indian and Lady Indians made a great showing in the State Sectional Meet held Saturday at East Jackson. Overall, Vidalia had 18 boys and 7 girls qualify for 18 events for this week’s GHSA AA State Championships, which begin Thursday at McEachern High School in Powder Springs.

The Indians had two winners in the Sectionals, including Brandon Beasley (Triple Jump) and Nahvie Berry (100h), while Freshman Takaiya Bacon was the lone girl’s winner, taking first place in the Triple Jump.

“Our 4×100 and 4×200 had a bad handoff in each but they overcame it and still qualified,” said Vidalia Track Coach Mandy Godbee. “The distance crew did an excellent job in the 4×800 making it through to state. Andrew Hodges was a double qualifier in 2 open events, the 800 and the 1600, while running a big PR in the 800. Seth MacGregor had a very strong run in the 3200 and is in a great position moving forward to next week.” Godbee added.

The Vidalia Girls were led by a Freshman contingency which recorded some personal records. All the girl qualifiers were freshmen, with the exception of sophomore Dashia For. “A team of 4 freshmen, Hannah Pittman, Takaiyah Bacon, J’Miya Hunt and Mischa Wardlaw, qualified in the 4×400 with a 12-second PR at regionals and another 11-second PR at Sectionals,” Said Godbee.

“The girls relay in the 4×200 and 4×100 also ran big PR’s with Dashia Ford, Mischa Wardlaw, Kayden Love, and J’Miya Hunt. This team continues to edge closer to the school record in the 4×200. This program is on the move! These girls are going to be a fierce team in the future. Godbee concluded”

The events get underway on Thursday at noon with field events and 4X200 prelims, along with the 4X800 Finals. The action picks back up on Friday, beginning at noon with running prelims, and the weekend will conclude with running finals starting at noon. All events will be streamed on the NFHS Network, and results can be found by Clicking HERE.
