TRUMP
--Donald Trump becomes the first sitting or former president to be  criminally charged. A Manhattan grand jury has voted to indict the former President...they had been hearing evidence in the hush payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniel just before the 2016 election. Trump is expected to surrender in New York early next week, sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News. While a day has not been firmed up, sources say that Tuesday is the day being discussed by Trump’s legal team and the DA’s office.
--House Speaker Kevin McCarthy tweeted: "The American people will not tolerate this injustice, and the House of Representatives will hold Alvin Bragg and his unprecedented abuse of power to account." McCarthy says Bragg has "weaponized our sacred system of justice against President Donald Trump."
--Added security in NYC after the indictment news. Sources tell ABC News All NYPD officers have been ordered to show up at 7a in uniform for deployments around the city.

BLACKHAWKS CRASH
All nine service members on board have died after two U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopters crashed during a training mission in Trigg County, Kentucky, an Army official announced, calling it a "truly tragic loss." The Black Hawk helicopters from the 101st Airborne Division -- one with five on board and another with four on board -- were on a "routine training mission" when they crashed at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Army officials said. The helicopters were "flying a multi-ship formation under night vision goggles," officials said.

POPE FRANCIS
The Vatican says Pope Francis is being treated for "infectious bronchitis." In a statement, the Vatican said Pope Francis had "progressively improved" after spending the night in the hospital with a respiratory infection. "The clinical picture is progressively improving, and the planned treatments continue," Matteo Bruni, director of the Press Office of the Holy See said. "Before lunch he went to the little chapel of the private apartment, where he gathered in prayer and received the Eucharist."  Francis, 86, was taken on Wednesday to the Gemelli University Hospital in Rome. Officials said he would be required to stay for several days to receive "appropriate medical treatment."

RUSSIA/WSJ REPORTER
Russia's detention of an American journalist is sparking sharp condemnation from the Biden administration and Capitol Hill. Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich was detained in Ekaterinburg, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said Thursday. The intelligence agency has accused Gershkovich of spying and collecting "state secrets." The Kremlin took a sharper tone, saying Gershkovich was caught “red-handed."  Gershkovich has pleaded not guilty.  

NASHVILLE SCHOOL SHOOTING
Authorities released 911 recordings on Thursday that capture the terror inside a Nashville elementary school during a mass shooting this week, as callers pleaded for help in hushed voices while sirens, crying and gunfire could be heard in the background.  The release of the recordings came as people protested at the Tennessee Capitol on Thursday in favor of tighter gun controls, haranguing the Republican-led Legislature to take action.
