1 23 23 012123 MBB Recap vs Mobile A. Udell3487

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker men’s basketball hosted Mobile (Ala.) on Saturday in Gillis Gymnasium.

The Barons (5-15, 3-9 SSAC) fell to the Rams (13-7, 7-5 SSAC) in a 62-48 defeat in which a sluggish start in the first half doomed BPC despite the efforts in the second half.

How It Happened | 1st Half

Mobile struck first with a jumper from beyond the arc but that was the only bucket for two minutes as the Barons finally found an answer with a bucket from Aaron Udell.

The first half began slowly as successful trips on the offensive end of the floor were scarce for both teams.

The Rams eventually found a score at the 16:06 mark with a trey and then took a 9-2 lead with 12:24 remaining on the clock with another deep ball.

It was a low-scoring affair for Brewton-Parker as Mobile managed to hold the Barons to just 12 points.

Half of the points came from the charity stripe with BPC connecting on six of eight free throws.

Alongside Udell, Lance Smith and Kenny Colwell found buckets as the team made just 3-of-27 shots from the floor.

Smith led the way with four points.

How It Happened | 2nd Half

The second half was a much different story from the Barons with the hosts opening the first two and a half minutes on a 10-0 run to pull the deficit down to 11 points.

After a jumper from the Rams, BPC went on a 12-4 run capped by a deep shot from Grant Sanders at the 12:11 mark to move the Barons behind the Rams just 39-34.

Mobile answered with a run of their own, scoring six unanswered points to move back to a double-digit advantage with just over 11 minutes to play.

Brewton-Parker found themselves in a two-possession ballgame with 9:04 to play, with Damarcus Johnson Jr. and Smith giving the Barons a combined five points.

Just a minute later, Jeffery Huff Jr. hit a huge three-pointer to cut the deficit down to five points, but that was the closest BPC would be able to get.

Mobile ended things by outscoring Brewton-Parker 15-6 in the final few minutes of action, securing a 62-48 win.

BPC shot for 27.9% (17-of-61) from the floor, 25% (4-of-16) from three, and 76.9% (10-of-13) from the foul line.
