Robert Toombs Christian Academy's basketball teams competed against Citizen Christian Academy, Bulloch Academy, and Frederica Academy this past week.
The Lady Crusaders lost to rival CCA by 19 points. However, the score doesn't come close to showing how intense the game was. The girls played hard and did a great job fundamentally. Top scorers were junior Bree Wimberly with 13 points, sophomore Meredith Durden with 11 points, and junior Ansley Akins with 5 points.
The Lady Crusaders then hosted Bulloch Academy, the top team in 4-AAAA, on Thursday, January 12th. The two teams played against each other earlier this year and the Lady Crusaders lost by 30 points. Thursday night, they came out ready to go and only lost by nine points but had several chances to win the game. They were very in sync with each other, read the court really well, and anticipated passes. Top scorers were junior Bree Wimberly with nine points and sophomore Meredith Durden with seven points.
Monday, January 16th, Frederica Academy traveled to RTCA and the Lady Crusaders were able to secure a big victory with a score of 46-25. Top scorers for the night were junior Bree Wimberly with 17 points, sophomore Meredith Durden with eight, and juniors Ansley Akins and Emmie Davis secured six points each. "According to our record, it doesn't show just how good our team is.The girls are playing tough teams right now and we're starting to figure out certain dynamics and play really well together. We have to continue to push ourselves at practice and continue to fix the little problems we are having. Playing these bigger teams will pay off in the long run, and the girls know that which is why they continue to work hard," says the Lady Crusaders Head Basketball Coach, Jacob Wilkinson.
The Lady Crusaders have another tough week ahead of them with Memorial, Twiggs, and another top ranked team against Piedmont on Saturday.
