The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 12, and the Vidalia Police Department arrested Aaron Coleman, age 20, of Lyons, and charged him with felony murder Thursday night.

Coleman is in custody of the Toombs County Detention Center and has his first appearance in court Friday morning.

Law enforcement says that as the investigation continues more charges and arrests may follow.




The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation regarding a homicide that occurred Thursday morning.

Captain Jordan Kight said that around 11:12 a.m., a call was made that a person had been shot at a residence at 124 Moore Road in Lyons where deputies that responded found a white male deceased. He was identified as John Tomason, 36, and was the occupant of the home.

The scene was cordoned off while investigators and deputies canvased the area for witnesses and conduct interviews to try to learn what had occurred before the shooting of Tomason.

Capt. Kight said there in one person of interest as of Thursday afternoon, but as this is an ongoing investigation and no arrests have been made, the Sheriff’s Office cannot release the name of the suspect at this time.
