The work on the Doctor Mark and Tonya Spivey Public Library is far ahead of schedule but right on budget. Tuesday afternoon, Library Director Cameron Asbell and Board Member Howard Holman offered a personal tour of the new facility, and to say there’s a monumental change from the old library building on Jackson Street would be an understatement.
Once completed, the library will include amenities of libraries in larger cities with state-of-the-art technology for patron usage, rooms designed just for children and sections for adults, and much, much more.
Holman reports that the facility is expected to be completed by the end of December, with library staff moving in and completing the finished touches in January. The $3.75 million project required $750,000 of local money with the state and grants funding the rest. A ribbon cutting is anticipated for February of next year.
