MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker women’s basketball hosted Coastal Georgia for a non-conference matchup in Gillis Gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Barons (7-2) defeated the Mariners (1-7) by surging in the second and third quarters to win, 75-64.
"Coastal Georgia is a rivalry game for us and it has always been fun over the years," Head Coach Steve Edwards said. "We did not shoot the ball well early, but late in the game we moved the ball well and made some plays."
"We have to be better defensively and we need everyone healthy," Edwards added. "We look forward to getting back to work after the break"

The Lady Barons opened with a 5-0 lead as Drexelle Ward produced the first bucket of the game at the 9:14 mark followed by a trey from Cisley Copper with 7:15 remaining.
BPC jumped to a six-point lead at the 5:47 mark with a three-pointer from Keonya Mincey.
Coastal Georgia pulled the game back to a one-possession deficit with 4:03 to play.
After a fastbreak score from Keyanna Tolbert, the Mariners took control of the lead with two-straight treys to lead, 12-10 with two minutes on the clock.
Coastal Georgia closed out the period by outscoring Brewton-Parker by three to lead, 18-13.

After falling into a seven-point deficit to open the quarter, Brewton-Parker went on a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead, 22-20 with 5:50 on the clock.
Coastal Georgia leveled the score before BPC answered with a 6-0 run capped by a successful jumper from Sy-Marieona Williams.
Both teams closed out the period's final minutes by trading scoring trips, but the Lady Barons managed to hold on to a 37-33 lead at the break.
BPC surged in the second quarter, outscoring CG 24-15 with Williams leading with seven points.

The Mariners returned from the break with a pair of jumpers to level the score at 37-37, leaving 7:56 on the clock.
BPC reclaimed the lead with a free throw before CG answered with a jumper to capture control of the score.
The Lady Barons responded with a 10-0 run led by Copper with seven points, recapturing the lead, 48-39 with 5:24 remaining.
A pair of buckets from Coastal Georgia knocked the lead down to just five points but a trey from Williams and a jumper from Tajahnae Wiggins boosted the Lady Barons’ lead back to double figures.
Brewton-Parker fought toward the end of the period, edging out the Mariners 8-6 to move to a 61-49 lead.

Williams opened the period with a big three at the 8:10 mark advancing BPC’s lead to 15 points.
After some back-and-forth play, Coastal Georgia eventually pieced together some scores to erase the double-digit lead by the Lady Barons.
CG utilized an 8-0 run to pull the game to 69-63 with 1:30 to play.
A couple of buckets from Madison Evans essentially sealed the game with the Lady Barons leading by 10.
Evans closed out the game with a pair of free throws to secure the 75-64 victory.

As a team, BPC shot for 35% 928-of-80) from the field, 35.7% (10-of-28) from three, and 42.9% (9-of-21) from the foul line.
Williams led the scoring efforts for the Lady Barons, producing 16 points.
Both Copper and Evans notched 12 points and six boards each.
Evans and Tolbert led with four assists each.
The Lady Barons narrowly held the advantage in rebounding, 50-49.
Off the glass, McRae produced 12 boards to lead BPC while CG had two in double figures.

Brewton-Parker led 8-18 in turnovers, gathering nine steals off the Mariners.
The Lady Barons scored 19 points off turnovers.
