On Thursday, the Bulldogs Cross Country teams hosted the 4th annual “Bulldog Invitational.” This year was the biggest yet, with over 700 registered runners, from around 30 different teams.
Last year, the course was wet and muddy from heavy rain the few days before the race. This year, runners had to battle the heat, on what was the hottest day of the cross country season so far as temperatures reached 97 during the race. We had some runners on different teams who struggled in the high heat and were not able to finish the race. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries. Most of the runners who did finish saw slower times than what they are used to, which was believed to be attributed to the heat.
In the varsity boy’s race, Freshman Moises Young once again led the way, with a 21:53, followed by Augustine Cruz (22:01). Other strong performances were by Kenneth Perez (22:29), Daniel Santoyo (23:51), and Donald Perez (24:14).
On the girl’s side, Freshman Mareli Luna ran a 25:27, which was good enough for 16th overall, and a medal. She was followed by Bryleigh Woods (26:16) Rebecca Parra (30:35), and Josseline Zamorano (31:54).
In the Middle School races, we had a couple of PRs and several who came very close. Our top-place finishers were Juan Luna with 1st place, Dalton Kight with 3rd place, and Jeffrey Perez with 12th place out of 124 runners.
