An accident involving a pedestrian tied up a main traffic route for several hours Monday morning in Vidalia as police worked the scene.
The accident occurred around 7:40 and within minutes, a text to those who have signed on to Vidalia’s textmygov.com had been notified via their cell phones to avoid the Highway 292 to Broadfoot Boulevard.
Vidalia police quickly responded to the area of Highway 292 and Linda Lane where they discovered a deceased man in the roadway. His identified has not been disclosed, but police did say he was 49 years of age.
Based on their investigation, it appeared that the man was walking east bound on Highway 292 when he was struck by a commercial vehicle that was traveling in the same direction.
The second alert to textmygov signees came at 12:51 p.m., over 5 hours later, stating that the roads were reopened and that police had completed this initial analysis.
The accident has been turned over to the Georgia State Patrol Troop 1 Specialized Collision and Reconstruction Team for a final investigation.
