United Way

2023 United Way Campaign Chair Jordan Robins announces the goal for this year.

The season of giving is quickly approaching, and for the next couple of months, you will have the opportunity to give to help those in need right here in the community.

The 2023 United Way of Toombs, Montgomery and Wheeler Counties kicked off last week with area high schools united their bands and cheerleaders to rally around the theme, A League of Our Own.

Jordan Robins is this year’s campaign chair, and she realizes the importance of her task and why she and countless other volunteers will be working tirelessly for a while.

“I am excited about this year’s campaign,” Robins said energetically and enthusiastically. “You may not think you’ll ever need the services of an agency supported by United Way, but if you ever do, we’ll be there. I’m just so thankful for everyone who supports United Way!”

Patricia Dixon is the Executive Director of the local United Way and says 99 cents of every dollar collected locally stays local to help many humanitarian agencies in the tri-counties.

“If you could sit in my office and hear something of things I hear, you’d never look or think of United Way the same again,” Dixon said. “You may not think you make a difference but let me tell you something: You do EVERY single day.”

Dixon also encouraged those in attendance to be mindful of those in the community who are in need.

“If you know of someone who needs help, contact me,” she implored. “If it’s not something that one of our agencies locally does, I will reach out to other areas to see if there’s help for them. If we don’t know someone is in need, we can’t help them. Please be my eyes and ears in the community.”

The 2023 campaign goal was set at $450,001, and the fundraising portion will conclude in mid-November. From there, a local panel will determine how much funding each United Way supported agency will receive.
