8 12 22 Toombs Volleyball

Lyons, GA – AUGUST 12, 2022

The Lady Bulldogs finished the first week of their 2022 season undefeated with the JV starting strong at 2-0 and Varsity at 4-0.

On Thursday, the JV team started the evening beating Bryan County in two straight sets 25-20 and 25-13. The Lady Bulldogs were once again solid serving the volleyball. Estrella Barbosa had 12 service points, while Arianna Hill and Lasagessa Thomas both had 6 service points. Both Arianna and Lasagessa had several kills.

The Varsity Lady Net Dogs followed the JV match by beating Bryan County in match one, with Toombs taking the first set in match one 25-3, Bryan winning the second set 25-19, and the Bulldogs taking the third set 15-7 to win the match

In match two, the Bulldogs pulled away fast to win consecutive sets 25-14 and 25-13

The Lady Bulldogs were led with hot serving from Anabel Cruz, who had 14 straight serve points in set one, and 18 total for the match. Cruz also had 11 service points in match two for 29 total on the night. Kortney Mahone also contributed with 7 service points, and Scarlett Stanley and Alayah Servin both had 5. Zariaha Newkirk led the team with kills, but got help from Scarlett Stanley, Sarah Morris and Anna Patrick.8 12 22 Toombs Volleyball 2

On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, the Toombs County Lady Net Dogs traveled to Pierce County for a JV match versus Pierce County, and two Varsity matchups against Pierce County and Tattnall County.

During the JV match versus Pierce Co., the Lady Net Dogs. won in two straight sets with the scores of 25-22 and 25-18. The JV team led by these seven players. Estrella Barbosa, Arianna Hill, Makenzie Kilgore, Emma Wright, Madison Brown, Lasagessa Thomas, and Elida Cruz. To go along with the solid serving, they were also solid at the net with kills coming from Makenzie Kilgore, Madison Brown, Arianna Hill, and Lasagessa Thomas.

In the Varsity match with Pierce Co., we started slowly, losing the first set 25-9 and started the second set down 8-2. The Lady Net Dogs would go on to win the next point to make it 8-3. This brought the serve to Toombs County’s Sarah Morris, which turned out to be the spark Toombs Co. needed as Sarah served a couple of aces to start a fire that turned into 7 straight service points for Toombs and an eventual 25-19 win in the second set. This pushed the match to a third set, which Toombs won 25-19. Sarah Morris led the team with 9 service points followed by Alayah Servin, Anabel Cruz, and Zariaha Newkirk, who all had 5 serve points.

The next match was put our Toombs County Lady Net Dogs against the Tattnall County Warriors, which we handled in two straight sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-20. The Lady Net Dogs were Led by Zariaha Newkirk, who had 15 service points to go along with some thundering kills. Anabel Cruz and Alayah Servin also added 6 service points each.
