The Vidalia Indian Softball team dropped the first two games of the season at the Harlem Fall Classic Friday night.
In Game One, the Indians faced perennial AAA powerhouse Harlem. The Indians jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a lead off homerun from Senior Tori Wright. In the second inning, Wright added to the lead with a 2RBI single, making it 3-0.
Vidalia pitcher Tymber Harris was strong early, striking out 4 Bulldogs in the first 2 innings.
However, after an error and a single, Harlem tied things up in the bottom of the third inning when Gracyn Gurley hit a 3 run homerun. They took the lead when Abbigayle Hillman drove in another run on a single, making it 4-3.
Vidalia would tie it up at 4 when Tori Wright drove in Laylah Brantley in the fourth inning.
However, Gracyn Gurley would once again come through for Harlem in the bottom of the fifth when she hit a 2 run homerun, giving the Bulldogs the 6-4 win.
Offensively for the Indians, Tori Wright finished the game 3-3 with 4 RBIs. Emma Humphrey was 1-3. Lydia Smith, Emma Vinson, and Laylah Brantley each scored runs. In the circle, pitcher Tymber Harris finished the game giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 8.


In Game 2, Vidalia faced off against the #1 ranked team in Single A, the ECI Bulldogs.
ECI would take the lead in the top of the first inning. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases, then an error and a sacrifice fly gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Vidalia would answer in the bottom of the first when Tori Wright hit a solo homerun.
ECI stretched the lead to 6-1 in the top of the third, and the Indians would again answer in the bottom with 2 more runs, making the score 6-3. However, that would be all the runs the Indians could manage, as they would go on to lose 7-3.
Tori Wright and Emma Vinson both had hits to lead the Indians offense. Madison Starr allowed 5 earned runs on 10 hits and 5 walks.
The Indians will host Jeff Davis Thursday, Aug 11 in the home opener.at 6PM.
