A batch of Vidalia Onions sold in five states has been recalled because they could be contaminated with listeria. The onions, grown and shipped by A&M Farms in Lyons under the Little Bear brand were packed between June 20 and June 23 and include the number 4159 on the PLU sticker.
The listeria was detected on a piece of equipment and NOT on the onions themselves and there has been no findings where any onions have been found contaminated. In addition, it is important to note that there have been no cases of listeria in humans reported in connection with the Vidalia Sweet Onion recall.
The onions were sold in bulk in stores in Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania. Aries Haygood, co-owner of A&M Farms said that he is personally overseeing a full cleaning and sanitation of the equipment and an internal review of the packers’ processing.
