Mozelle Powell

Mrs. Mozelle Cannington Powell, age 81, of Lyons, died Sunday, May 15, 2022, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness.  She was a native of Rhine and was a 1958 graduate of Dodge County High School in Eastman where she also played basketball.  She briefly lived and worked in Warner Robins and Tattnall County before moving to Toombs County in 1968.  She worked at Ft. Stewart and Edwin I. Hatch Plant before working at Bowen Seed Farm, retiring as office manager after more than twenty years.  She was a member of Hammond’s Baptist Church of Lyons, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and the Y&R.  Preceding her in death was her husband, Leonard Powell, Jr.; two children, Jeffery Powell and Becky Powell Dreggors; parents, Jesse Cannington and Barbara Harrell Cannington; and three siblings, Claude Cannington, Carson Cannington, and Jessie Lee Cannington Rigsby.

Her family includes two daughters, Candace Powell Brown and husband Fred of Reidsville, and Tina Powell Edwards and husband Phillip “Rooster” of Lyons; one son-in-law, David B. Dreggors of the New Branch Community; six grandchildren, Matt Brown and wife Felisha of Statesboro, Will Anderson and Kimberly of Hayden, Colorado, Sara Howard and husband Patrick of Pelham, Sam Dreggors of Sale City, Hayley Wilkinson and husband Brenden of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Jarrett Powell of Lyons; ten great-grandchildren, two sisters, Annie Maude Peterson and Carolyn Justice, both of Rhine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Thursday, May 19th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with her nephew, Chris Cannington officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.

Pallbearers are Les Grimm, Kenton Frost, Michael Clark, Wes Miller, Alex Suastegui, Jessie Sharpe, and Timothy Underwood.
