COLUMBUS, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball continued SSAC Tournament play in Columbus, Ga. with a rematch against top-seeded seed Faulkner (Ala.) on Saturday
The Barons (22-30) fell short against the Eagles (34-14) in a 9-3 contest at Historic Golden Park.
How It Happened
The Barons opened the game with hits from Matt Collins and Eduard Castillo, but the pair were left on base at the close of the top half of the opening frame. Faulkner jumped out to an early three-run lead with three hits which included a two-RBI homer.
BPC notched two hits from Jordan Rahn and Malik Germany in the second inning, but the Barons struggled to bring runs home yet again by leaving both runners on base. Faulkner utilized three hits and an error from the Barons to jump out to a commanding 6-0 lead in the bottom of
Ty Cook recorded the start on the mound, pitching for just 1.1 innings. Trey Jones came into the game and remained on the bump for 6.2 innings. Cook allowed four hits and four earned runs while striking out one batter along with walking three.
The Eagles scored another run during the bottom of the fourth inning, using a double and a single to plate a run for the 7-0 lead. Quick work was done in the fifth inning before Faulkner recorded another run in the sixth inning for the eight-run lead over the Barons.
Brewton-Parker began seeing some runs finally cross the plate in the seventh inning as the Barons totaled hits from Zachary Wilson, Mackenzie McDowell, and Collins to aid in knocking the deficit down to five runs. Faulkner scored one final run in the eighth before eventually sealing the 9-3 victory.
The Barons found two runners on base in the ninth as Ethan Frsaca walked followed by Collins’ single up the middle.
Jones pitched 6.2 innings and struck out eight batters while allowing seven hits and four earned runs.
Inside the Statistics
- Faulkner recorded 11 hits while Brewton-Parker recorded 10.
- Collins batted 4-of-5 to lead the Barons with Wilson batting 2-for-5 on the day while also recording two RBIs.
- The Barons left a total of 12 runners on base throughout the game.
- Defensively, Jackson Smith notched nine putouts.
- BPC was credited for three errors for the afternoon.
