Within the last week, the camaraderie of law enforcement supporting each other across county lines has resulted in several arrests.
Last Friday night, Toombs County deputies aided the Candler County Sheriff’s Office after a pursuit began near Metter. A Candler County deputy had tried to stop a vehicle driven by Theodore Roundtree at the intersection of Highways 57 and 46 in Candler County, but Roundtree fled. The chase ended in Vidalia where Roundtree fled on foot. The Vidalia Police Department and Toombs County Sheriff’s Office were valuable resources in securing the scene locally and ensuring no one was in harm’s way.
Roundtree was later apprehended and charged with fleeing/attempting to elude arrest, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit a crime, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, sale/manufacturing or delivery of ecstasy, and trafficking in methamphetamine. He was booked into the Candler County Jail.
On Monday of this week, Toombs County deputies responded to a call where a utility trailer and building materials were stolen overnight. A surveillance camera recorded the suspected vehicle used during the theft, and pictures were posted on Facebook asking for the public’s help in identifying it. Investigators learned that the truck was drive by Carl Kelly, who was located at the home of Russell O’Connor in Twin City. Emanuel County investigators went to O’Connor’s residence where they discovered the stolen items from Toombs County. Other stolen items were also discovered at the location including multiple stolen trailers, ATVs, a truck, and more. Kelly and O’Connor were transported to the Emanuel County Jail.
Kelly will be transferred to Toombs County to face theft charges of the items stolen in Toombs.
