Mrs. Atha Batay, age 94, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. She was a native of Montgomery County, lived in Toombs County most of her life, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, watching TV, and fishing. She loved her family immensely and will be missed terribly by all of us. She is preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Pheley Batay, Sr.; three sons, Cecil Batay, Benny Batay, and an infant son; Leonard Batay; grandson, Shannon Batay; parents, Lawson Whitaker and Mattie Lou Hayes Whitaker; four loving sisters and four dear brothers.
Her family includes three sons, Frank Batay and Donna, David Batay, and Billy Batay, all of Vidalia; two daughters: Janice Sizemore and husband Jay of Fort Pierce, Florida and Deborah Carpenter and Jimmy of Vidalia; twelve grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, two great-great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Thursday, January 20th, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral with Reverend Randy McDuffie officiating. Burial will follow in Ruth’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
