Mr. Ollie Joe Foskey, age 77, of the Meeks Community passed away on Thursday afternoon, November 25, 2021 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.
Born in Laurens County, he was the middle of three children born to the late Ollie and Mattie Belle Flanders Foskey. Mr. Foskey attended school in Scott and Adrian. He had lived and worked as a Private Painting Contractor in Central Florida for a number of years before returning to Laurens County. He lived in East Dublin and worked for Zeigler Painting in Dublin before starting his own company, Pro Kote Painting. He ran Pro Kote until 2002 when he went to work as a Motor Grader Operator for Johnson County, from where he retired in 2019.
Mr. Foskey was a founding member and the last living member of the Dixie Caravan, a Gospel Bluegrass band that traveled and played in Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Alabama. He played lead guitar, the mandolin and was the lead singer. In his younger years he enjoyed the out of doors, fishing and gardening. After retiring he became a fan of Gunsmoke and the Andy Griffith Show.
Mr. Foskey had been a member of the Emanuel Assembly of God before becoming the Garden of Prayer Assembly of God.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Danny Foskey and his sister, LaRay Johnson.
Mr. Foskey leaves behind his wife of twenty two years, Vivian Phillips Foskey, children, Rhonda Foskey (Mike Tanner), all of the Meeks Community, Janilene Clark, Lothair, GA, Jessica Duden (Jason), Soperton, GA, grandchildren, Hunter, Allissia, Havin, Maddison, DaLanie and Tenley, great grandchildren, Ashton and Carson as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 28, 2021 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend L. T. Logue and Thurman Foskey officiating.
Mr. Foskey will be laid to rest alongside his parents in Carter’s Chapel Cemetery in Johnson County.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Jason Durden, Travis Beasley, Matthew Tereul, Hugh Foskey, Christopher Jordan and Montana Foskey.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at the funeral home or friends and family may call at the residence.
