WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Brewton-Parker Lady Barons basketball program closed out the Keiser Thanksgiving Classic on Wednesday afternoon with a matchup against Florida Memorial.

The Lady Barons (6-3) surpassed the Lions (4-4) with a 74-70 win to wrap up the Florida road trip.

Head Coach Steve Edwards gave his thoughts after Wednesday's game. "We found a way to win a tough game today," Edwards said. "We battled back late in the game, and we had a couple of players make some huge plays down the stretch."

"We are starting to learn what it takes to win on the road," Edwards mentioned. "I'm proud of the fight that we showed today and well will continue to improve throughout the season."

How It Happened

The Lady Barons opened the game quickly with a 6-0 run before the Lions managed to level the game at 6-6 with just under seven minutes remaining in the quarter. Brewton-Parker quickly pulled away to a six-point lead with two consecutive three-pointers.

Florida Memorial responded to cut the deficit to four, but Brewton-Parker continued to answer the Lions. The Lady Barons eventually closed out the quarter with a 12-17 lead.

The second quarter was all BPC as well with the Lady Barons outscoring the Lions 16-13. Brewton-Parker opened the quarter with a seven-point lead which was quickly pushed to a 12-point lead with under four minutes to play.

Florida Memorial slowly decreased their deficit to five points, but the Lady Barons quickly pulled away to a double-digit lead with two minutes to play. The Lions closed out the half with two free throws to pull within single digits at the break. BPC led FMU 25-33 after two quarters.

Out of the break, Florida Memorial quickly rid themselves of the deficit and controlled the scoreline. The Lady Barons began to respond by reclaiming the lead, but the Lions did not back down from a fight. Florida Memorial began to build another lead up to six points with just over two minutes remaining in the period.

The Lions closed out the third quarter with a 50-44 lead over the Lady Barons. Florida Memorial outscored Brewton-Parker 25-11 in the period.

In the fourth quarter, Florida Memorial remained in control of the score with both teams trading scores and trips down the floor. Every score the Lady Barons had the Lions were able to respond to hold on to their advantage.

The Lions managed to pull away to a 10-point lead with four minutes left to play in the game, but Brewton-Parker fought back in the final minutes. The Lady Barons were able to pull within just two points with a minute to play. Brewton-Parker managed to close out the game on a 9-0 run within the last minute to secure the 74-70 win over Florida Memorial.

Inside The Statistics

Angel McRae led the way for Brewton-Parker with yet another double-double performance in her freshman campaign. McRae notched 17 points and 17 rebounds while also gathering a game-high five assists.

Micah Bess picked up nine points and nine rebounds, landing just shy of a double-double while also notching four blocks.

Three other BPC student-athletes picked up eight points apiece in Madison Evans, Sy-Marieona Williams, and Samerria Bryant.

As a team, BPC shot for 32.9% (25-of-76) from the field, 38.1% (8-of-21) from beyond the arc, and 69.6% (16-of-23) from the charity stripe.

The Lady Barons dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Lions 53-42.

Other Notables

Florida Memorial recorded 24 turnovers while Brewton-Parker recorded. The Lady Barons scored 20 points off turnovers and gathered 11 second-chance points.

The Brewton-Parker bench scored 25 points on the afternoon.

BPC held a 20-11 advantage in assists and a 12-7 advantage in steals. The Lady Barons also gathered seven blocks as a team.

Next Up

The Lady Barons will now rest up and recharge for the return of SSAC action on Dec. 2 with a road contest at Blue Mountain (Miss.) at 5:30 p.m. ET.
