Despite being heavy underdogs and falling behind 14 – 0, the Treutlen Vikings rallied and knocked off the Telfair County Trojans 46 – 35 at Bobby Driggers Stadium in Soperton Friday night.  The win ended a 7 game losing streak in the series to the Trojans.

Telfair County got on the scoreboard on their first possession when running back Jailen Smith ran it in from two yards out with 6:43 left in the first quarter.  Following the successful PAT, the Trojans led 7 – 0.  After the Vikings next possession failed to put points on the board, Telfair County scored again, this time on a 19 yard pass from QB Antonio Scott to WR Russ Ray.  After the PAT split the uprights, Telfair County led 14 – 0 with 2:15 left in the first quarter.

Treutlen kick returner Tim Blair ignited the Vikings by returning the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.  The PAT was no good, cutting the Trojan lead to 14 – 6.  On the Trojan’s next possession, Tim Blair picked off an Antonio Scott pass and returned it to the Trojan 15 yard line giving the Vikings excellent field position.  Treutlen took advantage when Quen Jordan powered his way into the end zone from a yard out with 10:01 remaining in the second quarter.  The two point conversion pass from QB Jordan Coney to PJ Smiley was good tying the game at 14.

The Trojans took the lead back with 6:04 left before halftime when Antonio Scott scampered in from 7 yards out.  The Davis Williams PAT was good giving Telfair County a 21 – 14 lead.  Treutlen answered just 16 seconds later when Jordan Coney broke free for a 51 yard touchdown run.  Danny Clements split the uprights on the PAT tying the game at 21.

The Vikings took the lead with 3:26 left in the second quarter when Coney hit WR PJ Smiley on a 75 yard pass down the middle of the field.  The PAT was unsuccessful but Treutlen led 27 – 21 at the half.

The Vikings added to their lead in the third quarter when Coney hit Cooper Brantley on a 12 yard fade route for a touchdown.  The two point conversion attempt was no good, giving the Vikings a 33 – 21 lead with 5:45 remaining in the third quarter.

The Viking offense extended the lead with two more touchdowns on a 10 yard run by Quen Jordan and a 70 yard pass from Coney to Tim Blair extending the Treutlen lead to 46 – 21 with 4:47 left in the game.  Telfair County added two late touchdown passes to cut the lead to 46 – 35 but could get no closer.

It was the Vikings first win over the Trojans since 2001, breaking a 7 game losing streak.  Treutlen is now 2 – 3 on the year and has the week off before heading to Alamo to face their rivals, the Wheeler County Bulldogs on Friday, October 8th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 and can be heard on Sweet Onion Country 101.7 FM and online at www.southeastgeorgiatoday.com with Jeff Raiford and Nathan Lamb.
